As a Washburn Review staff reporter, I authored 47 articles - below are some of my favorites. The range of articles included news, arts and entertainment and pop culture. The variety challenged me to adapt my writing while sharpening my copyediting, photography and interviewing skills.

Leadership students celebrate annual achievements

“You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself in any direction you choose.”

This Dr. Seuss quote, along with many others, was spoken during the Leadership Institute banquet as students celebrated their yearly achievements. The banquet occurred at 6:30 p.m. April 19 in the Gage Park Shelter House.

Policy change fosters safer campus

With campus-wide Title IX changes, Washburn hopes to improve its system of reporting sexual harassment and sexual violence, while ensuring that students are protected against discrimination based on gender.

HALO celebrates Cesar Chavez during annual blood drive

The ground floor of Washburn’s Petro Allied Health Center was buzzing with activity as employees of the American Red Cross partnered with members of HALO to operate the annual Cesar Chavez Blood Drive Challenge. The blood drive lasted from 9:30 a.m. through 3:30 p.m. April 21.

Quidditch flies to Washburn campus

Quidditch, the competitive sport featured in the Harry Potter series, has become an official club in the recruitment stages on the campus of Washburn University. 

Wizard champion announced in annual FYE faculty debate

Washburn faculty members lifted their wands to cast some spells during the annual First Year Experience Faculty Debate. Each member fought for their represented discipline in front of a diverse crowd of students at 6:30 p.m. April 5 in the Washburn A/B room in the Memorial Union.
